Beyond QUIC v1: A First Look at Recent Transport Layer IETF Standardization Efforts

The transport layer is ossified. With most of the research and deployment efforts in past decade focusing on Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) its extensions, QUIC standardization by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to be finalized early 2021. In addition addressing urgent issues TCP, ensures future extendibility destined drastically change protocol landscape. this work, we present a first look at emerging protocols their IETF beyond v1. While multiple proposed extensions improve itself, Multiplexed Application Substrate over Encryption (MASQUE) as well WebTransport different approaches address long-standing problems, interplay expands QUIC's take ossification challenges.
